Set against one of the world's best-known landmarks - Table Mountain - Cape Town is a heady mix of culture and nature. And nowhere is this more apparent than in the city centre itself. If you're interested in our history, visit the District Six Museum, the South African Museum, the Bo-Kaap Museum, the Jewish Museum or the Castle of Good Hope - all of which lie within a few city blocks of one another (you'll find various interesting museums and galleries lining Government Avenue and the Company Gardens at the top of Adderley Street). No one should miss a visit to Robben Island.

COASTAL ROUTE NORTH
R27 - THE CAPE WEST COAST EXPERIENCE
The road takes you through the Cape Town suburbs of Milnerton and Bloubergstrand
(Try Café Blouberg for an excellent breakfast). It´s from here that all
photographers love to snap that famous picture of Table
Mountain rising above the sparkling
waters of Table Bay. Turn right onto the R307
for a short inland detour via the town of Atlantis and the old Mamre Mission
Station to Darling, (45 min. home to a unique cabaret dame, Evita Bezuidenhout
- a show is a must) which lies within the West Coast Biosphere Reserve and
boasts some of the region's best flower-watching.

CAPE OVERBERG ROUTE
The southern coastline of the Western Cape is a delightful mix of
cultures, attractions and unsurpassed natural splendour. There's no doubt that Africa's southernmost point is one of the world's most
dramatic places. And it's a real traveler´s destination with ghosts - like the
Flying Dutchman whose ship is condemned to spend eternity trying in vain to
round the Cape - and tragedies - like the wreck of the Birkenhead
on which the tradition of women and children first began. Fortunately, though,
the journey by road is a lot less dangerous - in fact, the Coastal Route South
East through the Cape's Overberg district is one of South Africa's most scenic and
interesting drives.
